Christmas Jewelry Cake with not tools!!

Hope that you had enjoyed these holidays, for me its the best time of the year although I am far away from my family, but thank to the technology now a days its easier to keep closer in the distance.

One of the cakes that I made for the 23rd was a jewelry cake. This is not a tutorial but I wanted to show you how to make a beautiful ornament cake with no tools.

Jaya wants to have a cake for a holiday celebration inspire by one ornament. I don't know the meaning but it was beautiful. So I decided to make it from "scratch" with almost no tools but my hands.

I wanted to have a dark blue fondant color so I started with a light blue fondant covered cake and decided to hand paint it with a brush. You could also airbrush which is very fast and it covers the cake really good but I don't know why but lately I prefer to use the brushes than airbrushing, I like the little strokes of the brush and you can still see some of the color behind.

I mixed the navy blue of Americolor with a drop of black also from Americolor with some drops of High ratio of alcohol vodka, and then I painted over the cake.

I use a small brush to give a first coat and then I repaint ut with a big brush wet in alcohol. I waited to have it dry and then I added a second coat. You can repeat this process until get the intensity desired.

I let the cake dry overnight to start building the ornament. I started with the center. I use a small brooch that I had and made my own mold (I will have to post about this which is very easy and super useful). For the center I used a small decorative crystal which is the only thing non edible of the cake.

19-Discs-Craft-Cake-Sculpture-Cake-Decorating-Supply-Pottery-Clay-Fimo-ExtruderThe whole ornament is made by hand but I suggest you to use the extruder tool. I have to say that I don't like when I have to use these kind of tools, I don't find any of them really easy to use, but between the all bad ones if I would have to pick one maybe this one would be the less bad one.

I took the center as a reference and start building the out layers of the ornament. As you can see I alternated the little fondant balls with the little long cut sausages of fondant.

When I reach this layer I used this little silver decorations with the silver dragues that comes in different sizes

I always have them because I find them very useful in the decorations using in limited amounts.

The out layer of the ornament is formed with little petals cut in half.

And to finish the ornament bigger hand made petals very easy to make, starting from a ball of fondant that I thin it in the palm of my hand and pinch in the center to create that fold.

Finally I hand paint all the ornament with this gold luster mixture that consist in edible gold luster with pearl luster all diluted in lemon extract or vodka. Make that mixture paintable and with a thin paintbrush go ahead and paint every single detail of the ornament.

For the snowflakes I used the snowflake cutter than comes with a beautiful texture and I added randomly in the dark blue fondant.

Finally to finish my cake nothing better than a golden beautiful brooch that is my beautiful bow that comes in my new Craftsy Class: Cakes with Style.

The cake is beautiful, gorgeous even!!! However, you should change the title to say, ‘very few tools’.

Thank you!! Oh that’s true I used 1 tool!! the snowflake cutter used to decorate the outside of the ornament which is not part of the ornament and completely optional…other than that no tools!!! just the food colors, paintbrushes and my hands!! I am glad you liked it!!! I would change the tittle to a “Christmas Ornament cake using One Tool”!!!

I love to hear from you!!!
